" Don't limit a child to your own learning, for they were born in another time."

- Rabindranath Tagore

Do everything

in Love

Love is not a sentiment we display on a wall.

It is the architecture of everything we do — how we design the space, how we speak to children, how we decide what matters and what does not.

It is the reason we built this school, and the standard against which we measure every decision we make inside it.

We believe that a child who is truly seen, loved, and respected can begin to learn. Not before. Not without it.

We are a small school, by design. Eight children, known deeply. Eden is a self-directed learning environment for children aged 2 to 6, in the heart of Coimbatore.

There is no curriculum here. No report cards, no homework, no sticker charts, no workbooks. What there is, is time. Beautiful, unstructured, child-led time — in a space designed with the same care and intention as a home, because we believe the environment itself is a teacher.

We are not the first to believe in this kind of education. Eden is part of a long and beautiful tradition — Montessori, Reggio, Waldorf, Summerhill, Sudbury Valley — of people who asked questions, have stood the test of time, offering generations of children something different — something more human.

Though Eden is just about a year old, we stand on the shoulders of giants. Their research, their work, and their courage to imagine something better have lit the way for us. We walk in their footsteps — and try to add something of our own.

Three programs.
One Community

AGES 2-3

FIRST STEPS

9.30 - 12.30 , Everyday

It's finding out that the world beyond home is exciting — that people are kind, friendly, and that their own instincts and ideas matter. The Playgroup program is an unhurried morning built around that discovery. Children move freely between materials, activities, and people, following their own curiosity at their own pace. Nothing is prescribed or required. The program simply offers time, space, and a warm community — and lets children find their footing in it.

AGES 3-4

FOUNDATIONAL YEAR 1 ( PRE-K)

9.30 - 3.00

Children here are old enough to be curious about the world beyond home, young enough that everything in it is still new. This program is built around that curiosity. Through play, conversation, story, and creative work, children begin to make sense of the people and world around them. They learn to be part of a group — to listen, to take turns, to disagree, to belong. Academics are not the focus at this stage. What matters more is that a child leaves with a genuine appetite for learning — confident in themselves, comfortable in a community, and ready for the more structured years ahead.

AGES 4-5

FOUNDATIONAL YEAR 2 ( LKG)

9.30 - 3.00

By the time children enter LKG, most have found their footing — they know the rhythms of a school day, they have friends, and they are ready for more. The LKG program builds on that confidence. Children are introduced, gradually and playfully, to the beginnings of literacy and numeracy — sounds and letters, numbers and patterns, words and stories. But the learning remains rooted in doing: in making things, asking questions, talking through ideas, and working alongside others. This is also the year children begin to discover themselves as learners — noticing what they enjoy, what challenges them, and how to keep going when something is difficult. Those habits of mind matter far more, in the long run, than any particular skill acquired along the way.

A Day here

Every day at Eden has a shape to it — a rhythm that children come to know and trust. We begin slowly, without rush. The morning has room to settle into. There is time to arrive, to greet, to ease into the day.

As the day unfolds, children move through work, play, and rest — punctuated by meals shared together and what we call Life Arts: the small, necessary acts of daily living. Dusting a shelf. Tending a plant.  Folding, washing, caring for the space around them. These are not chores in the ordinary sense. They are the quiet backbone of a meaningful day — and one of the most important things we offer.

This is, above all, a way of living together — and children absorb it not by being taught, but simply by being here.

What we Don't Do

5_edited.png

We don’t run one fixed curriculum for every child

You won’t see every child doing the same thing at the same time. Learning here adapts. If a child is ready to go deeper, we go deeper. If they need more time, we give it. Though, we have unit plans, we follow their curiosity and adapt our plans

We don’t tell children

what to think.

We teach them how to think.

You’ll hear questions more than answers.

“Why do you think that?”

“What could we try next?”

We value reasoning, discussion, and reflection over memorized responses.

We don’t grade, assign homework or assess.

You won’t find ranks, report cards or labels here. Progress shows up in confidence, independence, clearer speech, stronger focus, and better problem-solving.

We document growth. We notice how a child solves a problem, explains an idea, recovers from frustration, works with others. We don't assess. We notice.

We don’t rush learning

9_edited.png

We're in no hurry.

If a child wants to sit with a problem longer, build again, or redo something carefully, that time is respected. If a child wants to stare at a leaf longer instead of filling a worksheet, that’s what we’ll do. Depth matters more than speed.

The hard questions,
answered honestly.

Will my child fall behind?

Children in self-directed environments consistently develop stronger intrinsic motivation, deeper focus, and more resilient self-concepts than their schooled peers. What they may lack — early reading at 4, worksheets at 5 — is not a deficit. It is simply irrelevant to who they are becoming.

How do children learn to read and write?

We don't push them to read or write before they are ready for it. At LKG, we introduce prewriting skills, and in UKG, we dive into the exciting world of writing and reading! We want to equip children for a good start in Grade 1.

What happens if children fight or behave badly?

Conflict is part of learning to be in the world with other people. We do not eliminate it. We sit with it. Guides support children in finding their own resolutions rather than imposing adult-decided consequences. The only non-negotiable is physical safety.

What if my child just wants to do the same thing every day?

Then that is exactly what they should do. Repetition in children is not laziness — it is mastery in progress. We never redirect a child away from something that has genuinely captured them. That interest, honored fully, becomes the foundation of everything.
